Decking
Decking boards are durable timber boards for terraces, balconies and garden paths. Our range includes thermo-ash, Siberian larch and the tropical hardwoods Bangkirai, Ipe, Cumaru and Massaranduba, with both grooved and smooth surfaces.
Frequently asked questions
Which wood is the most durable for decking?
The most durable are dense tropical hardwoods such as Ipe, Cumaru, Massaranduba and Bangkirai. Thanks to heat treatment, thermo-ash is also highly weather-resistant, while Siberian larch is a durable and more affordable softwood option.
Should I choose grooved or smooth decking boards?
A grooved surface is less slippery when wet and better at hiding minor signs of wear. A smooth surface is more comfortable barefoot, easier to clean and looks more modern.
Do decking boards need oiling?
Untreated wood weathers to a silvery grey in sun and rain over time, which doesn't affect its durability. If you want to keep the wood's original colour, oil the deck regularly with decking oil.
What should I bear in mind when installing decking boards?
Leave a gap between the boards so rainwater can drain away and the wood can expand. Ensure good ventilation beneath the decking and use stainless steel screws so the wood doesn't stain.
